Periodic magnets for undulators and free electron lasers--A review of performance features

The design of plane periodic electromagnets and permanent magnets is examined and the alternative helical geometry is also considered. Analytic and numerical methods of calculating the field distributions from permanent magnet arrays are discussed. Reference is made to magnets that have been designed in a number of laboratories.
