Abstract :
The advantages of multicoil Bitter-type magnets are discussed and the formula for the resultant geometry factor for several coaxial coils, taking into account the influence of the axial cooling holes and electrical contacts in the windings, is presented. As an example of the resultant geometry factor calculations, the computation of a bi-coil winding of a designed 10 MW electromagnet is described. Moreover, the analysis of the resultant geometry factor has been done for the double current destribution along the coil axis as a function of the length of the middle coil with the heat flux taken as a parameter.
