Abstract
Acoustic emission as a diagnostic tool to test the behaviour of superconducting magnets during charging and operation will be discussed. Released mechanical stresses built up by Lorentz forces and flux movement give rise to the emission of acoustic bursts. It is attempted to correlate the number of events and the integral peak amplitude distribution versus magnet current to the ongoing physical processes for a laboratory scale solenoid.
