Abstract :
Driven by their common interest, three European laboratories: CNEN [Frascati, I] ECN [Petten, NL] and SIN [Villigen, CH] decided to coordinate their development efforts and to install a common high field forced flow test facility at Villigen. The test facility SULTAN (Supraleiter Testanlage) is presently under construction. As a first step, a 8T/1m bore solenoid with cryogenic periphery will be ready within 1981. The cryogenic system, data acquisition system and power supplies which are contributed by SIN are described in this paper. Experimental feasibilities, including cooling flexibility, and instrumentation are shortly reviewed. Progress of components and facility construction is described. In addition, planned extension of the background field up to 12T by insert coils is outlined.
