Abstract
The magnetic requirements of differential transformers for ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) are reviewed. A new method for rounding the hysteresis loop of cores used for GFCI working under pulse conditions is proposed by winding two or more layers of tape coaxially. Cores made by this method yield reliable GFCI operation from -20°C to +80°C.
