Behaviour of a generalised covariance model in picture coding

We propose a generalised exponential model for the covariance function of real image that is more realistic than the two conventional models, i.e. separable and isotropic models. The theoretical coding performance based on this model is shown to agree well with that based on the real covariance function in the discrete cosine transform (DCT) coding.
