Abstract
Eddy current losses in the pipe of a three phase pipe cable have been computed by using three different models. The magnetic characteristics of the pipe were assumed to be linear and hysteresis losses were neglected. To solve the problem, an integral equation technique was used together with the method of images. The dependance of the losses on the permeability of the pipe and the configuration of the conductors is demonstrated. It is shown that for practical configurations, the losses do not vary much with permeability but are strongly influenced by the configuration of the current carrying conductors.
