Abstract :
A computation technique is described for determining the maximum error-free data rate for a transmission line whose attenuation and phase shift have been measured at discrete frequencies. Results are calculated using the manufacturer´s measurements of commercially available twisted pair lines of American Wire Gauges (AWGs) 19, 22, 24, and 26, for lengths up to about 5 km and assuming an unloaded uniform line. The results highlight the importance of the phase data and show the deficiencies in both quantity and accuracy of the experimental data available
