Abstract :
For the economical use of resources, it is important to recover metal from steel making slag. A rotary magnet type separator has been utilized to handle this lumpy slag, but its characteristics have to be improved for the mass-handling of slag. For increasing the slag capacity treated per hour, it is necessary to increase the speed of revolution of the separator by reducing the rise time of the coil exciting current. This paper reports a new method to increase the treating capacity of the rotary magnet separator by making use of the magnetic energy, wasted in the resistor of the conventional method, for exciting another coil. As a result, the treating capacity of the separator has been increased by a factor of three over that of the conventional type, with the same power consumption.
