Abstract
A simple average temperature transducer has been developed using a long amorphous magnetic tape. The average temperature over the place where the tape is located, can be measured by detecting the propagation time of the magnetostrictive wave, whose velocity varies linearly with the temperature. Fe40 Ni40 P14 B6 (METGLAS 2826) was found suitable. This transducer can operate on the from range from 0°C to 160 °C with the accuracy of 1%.
