Abstract
EPRI has recently completed an assessment study focusing on processes that occur in extruded, solid-dielectric high-voltage transmission cables aged under dry conditions (RP 2986-04; EL-TR 100268). The purpose of this study was to examine the question of multi-stress ageing of extruded cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation systems for transmission cables, to review a number of theories of ageing, to review some results of experimental studies of ageing, and finally, to offer a series of recommendations for further research. A summary of this EPRI study is given.<>
