Abstract
The authors use a time-domain design methodology previously used for perfect reconstruction filter banks to design wavelet prototypes which may be used to generate the discrete wavelet transform (DWT). An advantage of this method is the significant reduction in the inherent delay, and consequent reduction in the number of multiplications required to implement the DWT. It is proposed that these low delay wavelets will find applications in time critical systems.
