Abstract
Co-V films with the c-axis of the hcp structure strongly oriented normal to the film plane were prepared by RF-sputtering. The formation of a perpendicular magnetic recording mode was inferred from the measurement of the recording characteristics. It was also found that the anisotropy field (Hk ) of the recording medium did not always need to exceed the demagnetizing field (4πMs ) in order to display perpendicular recording.
