Abstract
The design, analysis, construction, and test of a small iron-cored linear synchronous motor (LSM) is described. The LSM uses a transverse flux homopolar configuration. Permanent magnets connect the base of the motor teeth and reduce the field coil requirements. Static lift and thrust measurements are made; the results agree approximately with calculations based on magnetic circuit analysis [1].
