Abstract
A non-contact technique for reducing the core loss Of a grain oriented silicon steel has been developed by the use of laser irradiation (1). Surface treatment, however, is required after laser irradiation because the irradiation blows off the surface film of the steel sheet. The effects of the surface treatment on laser irradiated steel sheets and the characteristics of model transformers made from them were investigated. When the laser irradiated surface has been ccated with the tensile coating solution and baked below 550°C, the low core loss level has been maintained and simultaneously, good film characteristics on insulation resistance, breakdown voltage and corrosion resistance have been achieved. Using laser irradiated steel sheet, the core loss of model transformers has been improved.
