Abstract :
Exchange coupled epitaxial garnet films were investigated for use in a self structured lattice file. It is shown both theoretically and experimentally that if one film has low magnetization and high anisotropy and the other high magnetization and low anistropy, the interface between the exchange coupled films offers a barrier to the passage from either direction of a capping wall of a cylindrical domain. Cylindrical domains with the capping wall next to the interface but on either side of the interface are simultaneously stable over a considerable bias range. Stability conditions and the magnitude of barrier fields are given.
