Abstract :
A constrained boundary-element formulation is presented for the calculation of the eddy current losses in a multiconductor TM (transverse magnetic) induction problem. It is shown that a constraint that sets the total source current inside each conductor to zero must be used. Such a constraint guarantees the validity of the radiation condition at infinity as well as a uniquely defined problem. Two examples are given to illustrate the validity of and need for the constraint. The effect of conductor arrangement on the field distribution is discussed in detail
