Abstract
We present loss histograms for splices in shifted zero dispersion monomode optical fibre, at ¿ = 1.55 ¿m using fusion and glueing techniques. Mean losses of 0.29 dB and 0.08 dB, respectively, have been obtained. The increased loss in the fusion splices is shown to be attributable to effective separation and effective offset, due to core deformation at the splice point.
