Abstract :
Trajectory analysis models are frequently employed to predict the behavior of high-gradient magnetic separation systems; however, there are few experimental observations of actual trajectories. Presented here is an overview of particle trajectory observations in dry (gas-particle) HGMS systems including both isolated fiber and multiple fiber lattice configurations. The experiments discussed span a range from a noninertial regime to one in which particle inertia is most important. Trajectory evidence displaying significant manifestations of particle inertial effects, including back capture observations, is presented. The agreement of these experiments with applicable theories is indicated.
