Abstract :
A mathematical model has been developed for calculating isolated pulse output for a recording system comprising magnetic media with a perpendicular easy axis of magnetization, a high permeability backing layer, and perpendicular type write and read heads. The calculations are based on previously published field equations [1] for perpendicular type heads having a rectangular cross-section pole piece. The calculated isolated pulses are compared to experimental pulses obtained from measurements on a large-scale test system. Good agreement between calculated and experimental pulses demonstrates the usefulness of the field equations.
