Abstract :
Bit error rates due to adjacent wavelength interference for wavelength division multiplexed signals are analysed. Results are presented for synchronised and staggered bit streams. The bit error rates compared to single wavelength detection are significantly larger unless the relative quantum efficiency of the photodetector at the two wavelengths is less than 10¿4.
