Abstract
The virtual eddy current method for shape optimization of coils consisting of free curves is presented. Optimum coil shapes are determined as paths of the eddy current are induced in a virtual thin metallic plate. For this purpose, the distribution of the magnetic flux density impressed on the plate is optimized. The formulation based on the electric vector potential method (T-method) is shown. The validity of the method is demonstrated by shape optimization of the field strength coil of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems
