Abstract
Three methods of local error estimation for adaptive mesh generation in the finite-element method (FEM) are tested and compared. In the first two the errors are estimated from boundary condition violation at the borders of the elements. In the third method, the error estimation is obtained from perturbation in the magnetic induction. Two examples are used to test the three methods: the magnetostatic analysis of a contactor and the calculation of forces exerted by permanent magnets
