Abstract :
An approach to the study of transmission lines and interconnects based on ladder networks is presented. The conventional lumped segmentation of transmission lines is assumed as the starting point for deriving a physically based expansion of the propagation function, thus providing a new representation of the transmission line. All the electrical quantities of the transmission line, such as load voltage or input impedance, can be directly written in the Laplace domain. Closed-form expressions of poles and residues are presented and two-port rational function representations provided.
