Abstract
A simple analytical model of the write process in perpendicular recording is given. It applies to the particular case of writing with a single pole head which produces a simple field distribution having sufficient amplitude to magnetize the medium to a level eventually determined by self-demagnetization effects. The width of magnetic transitions written into thin films is shown to be dependent only on the record head to medium separation d, while the long wavelength replay voltage amplitude is proportional to the perpendicular coercivity Hc , and thickness D, of the medium.
