Abstract :
ELFIN has been designed to meet requirements of great generality, modularity, and flexibility in a research environment. The characteristics of the code are its wide applicability; its complete parameterization with respect to the number of dimensions (1, 2, or 3) of the problem; its discretization freedom, that is, the possibility of defining the family and order (however great) for each element (even with curved sides); and the adoption of a sort of symbolic polynomial calculus for the manipulation of shape functions
