Abstract
Japanese activities on development of superconducting generator are reviewed with a brief historical description. Japanese development program has demonstrated the technical feasibility of superconducting machine by construction and operation of model machines. The experiences in manufacturing and operating such machines have been accumulated to have sufficient potential for realization of practical superconducting generators. At present, although a definite next program is not clear, there is a trend advancing the development of practical superconducting generators.
