  • Abstract
A CAD system based on a supermicrocomputer with an integrated array processor (AP) is described. The boundary-element method is used to calculate the electric fields. Details of the structure, performance, and limitations of the system are given, particularly the enhancement in performance effected by the AP, which gives a maximum computational speed of 10 MFLOPS. A comparison is made with the performance of a 6.8-MIPS mainframe computer. Optimization of the electrode configuration of an image intensifier tube is given. The system can be utilized for the design and evaluation of other cylindrically symmetric electrical devices, e.g. electron guns
