One answer to the problem of proliferating professional groups is for existing groups to extend their fields of interest to include new areas of importance. As its technical field grows, however, the group faces the problem of equitable treatment of various parts of the field in planning meetings and publishing papers. This becomes much easier if there is not a rigid limit on publications.
