Abstract :
A phase-shift modulation technique is described for the linearisation of light sources in fibre-optic transmission systems. A 25 dB reduction in the 2nd-harmonic distortion has been achieved in specially fabricated GaAlAs double-heterostructure light-emitting dioded (l.e.d.s) compared with the distortion levels typical of conventional l.e.d.s.
