Abstract :
The phenomenon of superconductivity is explained. The discovery of superconductors with high superconducting-to-normal transition temperatures is recounted. The structure of one of these compounds, Tl/sub 2/Ca/sub 2/Ba/sub 2/Cu/sub 3/O/sub 10/, which has a transition temperature of 125 K, is described. Potential applications of this new class of materials are examined.<>
