Abstract
A novel method is presented for estimating a normalised correlation function from discrete-time observations. The performance of the method approaches that of a maximum likelihood estimator. Because multiplication and division are replaced by logarithmic and hyperbolic tangent conversions, the method is well suited to hardware implementation.
