    It may strike some readers as an oversight that the image display and manipulation systems treated in this issue do not include the ones that set the standards for the industry. In fact, the omission was intentional: most of those systems have already been well covered in the literature. Our primary interest here was to explore those new systems which have yet to see the light of day and which are setting industry standards for the future.
