Abstract :
A new sensitivity criterion for approximating real coefficients to their nearest powers of two is presented. The approach considers all searched points over the entire frequency range as a measure to indicate the impact of the coefficient on the frequency response as opposed to using the extremes only. The technique proved to be highly appropriate for the design of multiplierless FIR filters with virtually no increase in the computation time.
