Abstract :
Considerations on disturbances related to shunt capacitor bank (SCB) switching are summarized and a unique damping circuit which is able to cope with all of them is proposed. This damping circuit consists of a reactor in parallel with a resistor which is in series with a metal oxide varistor (MOV), the latter being used to switch on the resistor only during transients. The design parameters of this damping circuit are described, and the main tests performed are presented.<>
