Abstract :
The IEEE Simplified Method for computing lightning performance of overhead transmission lines was first described by J.G. Anderson (Transmission Line Reference Book, 345 kV and Above, 2nd ed., Chapter 12, Electric Power Research Institute, Palo Alto, CA; 1982). Since its publication, considerable experience has been obtained in the application of the method and in the testing of various component models. Application experience is described, the theoretical basis for modifications is indicated, and a framework for future advancements is provided.<>
