Abstract
A simple protocol for measuring power frequency magnetic fields in residences is presented. The measurement procedures are simple and not intended to characterize the temporal and spatial variability of magnetic field levels in residences. The protocol contains a structured component for measurements which are performed at specific locations, and an unstructured component for measurements which are performed at locations requested by the occupants. The protocol requires personnel performing the measurements to explain the metrology-related limitations associated with the measurement results. Terminology related to power frequency magnetic fields and their measurement, the meaning of measurement accuracy and variability within the context of residential magnetic field measurements, and examples of measurement approaches that characterize the variability of magnetic field levels are discussed.<>
