Abstract :
Ontologies are becoming central to allowing knowledge sharing and reuse, and to promoting cooperation in many research areas. Up to now, the use of ontologies has been experimented with (and its advantages proven) in diverse areas, ranging from medicine and biology to geography, astronomy, and defense. Less use has been made in the electromagnetic (EM) research area. This paper highlights the advantages of ontologies for electromagnetics, and initiates the EM researcher into ontological modeling by reporting some experiences in the area of antenna-array design.
