نقد كتاب را مي ­توان امتداد كوشش ­هاي نويسنده در ارائه دست ­آورد پژوهشي دانست. نقد، جوهر پژوهش است و اين مقاله بر آن است تا كتاب «فصول في الترجمه و التعريب» از محمد البطل، نويسنده و مترجم مصري را به بوته نقد بگذارد. كتاب از هشت فصل تشكيل شده كه به موضوعات مختلف در حوزه ترجمه از عربي به انگليسي و بالعكس پرداخته است و اگر چه همه اين فصول كه هر كدام حكم يك مقاله را دارند از نظر موضوعي در يك حوزه قرار مي ­گيرند اما پراكنده هستند و هر كدام به تخصص و مهارتي خاص در ترجمه اختصاص دارند. حوزه­ اي كه نويسنده توجه بيشتري به آن دارد حوزه اصطلاح­ شناسي است كه بخش بزرگي از كتاب به آن اختصاص يافته و حتي يك فصل كتاب را فرهنگ كوچك اصطلاحات مطبوعاتي تشكيل مي­ دهد. با توجه به اين كه كتاب­هاي مربوط به تئوري ترجمه، پيشينه ­اي نسبتا طولاني دارند و حتي در زبان عربي نيز كتابهاي معدودي در اين زمينه به چاپ رسيده است انتظار مي­ رفت كتاب «فصول في الترجمه و التعريب» از محمد البطل كه در سال 2007 ميلادي به چاپ رسيده است در زمينه مطالعات ترجمه، عميق ­تر باشد و حتي نكات ترجمه ­اي بيشتري را گوشزد كند، اما نگاهي به فهرست منابع كتاب، اين باور را به ما مي­ دهد كه نويسنده، كار تحقيقي گسترده ­اي در زمينه فن ترجمه انجام نداده و بيشتر، تجربه­ هاي عملي خود را به نگارش درآورده است.
