كنوانسيون اروپايي حمايت از حقوق بشر و آزادي هاي اساسي، نخستين سند در سطح منطقه اي به شمار مي رود كه يك نهاد قضايي يعني ديوان اروپايي حمايت از حقوق بشر را به عنوان ساز و كار نظارتي بر اجراي مقررات كنوانسيون پيش بيني نموده است. كتاب حقوق كيفري شوراي اروپا كه به صورت قابل فهمي ترجمه شده است، بيانگر تخصص مترجم در هر دو حوزه محسوب مي شود، اما دغدغه مطرح شده توسط مترجم در مقدمه كتاب مورد نقد و نيز چاپ نخست كتاب مزبور تحت عنوان حقوق كيفري اروپايي توسط انتشارات سمت كه به هدف برطرف ساختن نياز دانشگاه ها به مآخذ مبنايي و منابع علمي غير معارض با مباني اسلامي ايجاد شده است، ايجاب مي كرد كه در جهت جامعيت موضوع و متناسب بودن آن با اهداف و نيازهاي آموزشي دانشجويان تحصيلات تكميلي، صفحاتي هر چند مختصر به ساير آراء ديوان اروپايي براي هر چه بهتر شفاف شدن اصطلاحات مندرج در كنوانسيون، آراء دادگاه هاي كيفري بين المللي كه در برخي از مصاديق حقوق بشر، تفاسيري مغاير با تفاسير ديوان اروپايي ارائه كرده اند و ديدگاه اسلام در زمينه هاي مورد بحث از جانب مترجم اختصاص مي يافت تا اثر حاضر از صرف ترجمه، خارج شود.

International law has so far made remarkable progress in two areas. One of these is human rights and the other is international criminal law. After World War II, numerous international and regional documents were adopted in the field of human rights. The European convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms is the first regional instrument which provides a judicial institution, the European court for the protection of human rights, as a monitoring mechanism on execution of the convention’s provisions. In the field of international criminal law, the focus has been on prosecuting and trial of individuals who violate humanitarian laws, and international criminal tribunals have been prosecuting perpetrators of these catastrophes. The book of Criminal Law in European Council, which has been translated comprehensively, expresses the translator's expertise in both areas. But this specialization required that the pages, however briefly, were allocated to the other European court decisions to make the terms of the convention clearer as well as to the judgments of the international criminal tribunals which provided interpretations that were contrary to the interpretations of the European court in some human rights case in order to comprehensively cover the issue and its relevance to the goals and educational needs of graduate students.
