Il Gattopardo è l’unico romanzo scritto da Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, nato a Palermo il 23 dicembre1896. È stato scritto tra il 1954 e il 1957, ma non viene pubblicato subito, perché prima Einaudi e poi Mondadori si rifiutano di pubblicarlo. Solo dopo la morte di Tomasi e grazie a Giorgio Bassani, nel 1958 la casa editrice Feltrinelli decide di pubblicare il romanzo. Una seconda edizione, “conforme al manoscritto del 1957”, a cura di Gioacchino Lanza, esce nel 1969. Nel 1959, Il Gattopardo vince il premioStrega. Successivamente il romanzo diventa un best seller e viene tradotto in tutto il mondo anche in persiano. Nonostante la grande passione per la storia e per romanzi stranieri, particolarmente francesi, Tomasi si dedica alla narrativa solo negli ultimi anni della sua vita.
In questo articolo focalizzeremo l’attenzione sulle tematiche trattate dal libro ed in particolare il contesto nel quale si sviluppano i mutamenti portati in Sicilia: la discesa dei Mille e l’Unità d’Italia.

The Leopard is the only novel written by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, born in Palermo in 1896. It was written between 1954 and 1957, but it has not been published immediately, because before Einaudi and then Mondadori refused to publish it. Only after the death of Tomasi, and thanks to Giorgio Bassani, in 1958 the publishing house Feltrinelli decided to publish the novel. A second edition, "in conformity with the manuscript of 1957", edited by Gioacchino Lanza, comes out in 1969. In 1959, the Leopard won the prize "Strega". Subsequently the novel becomes a bestseller and is translated into the whole world even in Persian. Despite the great passion for history and foreign novels, particularly French, Tomasi is dedicated to fiction only in the last years of his life.
In this article, we will focus on the topics covered in the book and in particular the context in which the changes brought to Sicily are developed: expedition of the Thousand and the italy's unification.

وزپلنگ يگانه داستاني است كه جوزپه تومازي دي لامپه دوزا (Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lampedusa) متولد 1896 در پالرمو آن را به رشته نگارش درآورده است. اين داستان بين سال هاي 1954-1957 نوشته شد، ولي بلافاصله منتشر نشد، زيرا ناشراني از قبيل ايناودي (Einaudi) و موندادوري (Mondadori) حاضر به انتشار آن نشدند. فقط پس از مرگ تومازي، و به لطف جورجو باساني (Giorgio Bassani)، انتشارات فلترينلي (Feltrinelli) تصميم به چاپ و نشر آن گرفت. ويراست دوم اين اثر منطبق با متن دست نويس 1957 كه جوآكينو لانتسا (Gioacchino Lanza) ويرايش كرده بود در سال 1969 منتشر شد. يوزپلنگ در سال 1959 موفق به دريافت جايزه استرگا شد. متعاقب آن، اين رمان به يك كتاب پرفروش تبديل شد و به همه زبان هاي دنيا از جمله فارسي منتشر شد. با وجود علاقه فراوان تومازي به تاريخ و رمان هاي خارجي، خصوصاً رمان هاي فرانسوي، وي فقط در سال هاي پاياني زندگي به نگارش داستان روي آورد. در اين مقاله موضوعات مطرح شده در اين كتاب از قبيل جنگ 1860 به فرمان دهي گاريبالدي، اتحاد ايتاليا، و حوادث و تحولات تاريخي در جامعه سيسيل را تحليل و بررسي مي كنيم.
