Islam and the Culture of Tolerance

يكي از الزامات بي بديل براي تلاش در جهت اعتلاي مجدد فرهنگ و تمدن اسلامي كه از سابقه درخشان و بي نظيري در تاريخ برخوردار است، رجوع به تاريخ فرهنگي واقعي همين تمدن است. مقاله حاضر بر اساس انديشه هاي محقق آلماني (توماس باور) در كتاب فرهنگ مدارا؛ روايتي ديگر از تاريخ اسلام پايه ريزي شده است. روش شناسي تحقيق در اين اثر بيشتر روش مطالعات فرهنگي است؛ يعني بررسي يك دوره از منظر شيوه عملِ فرهنگي. مولف نشان مي دهد كه علماي طراز اول اسلامي مانند ابن جزري، ابن حجر عسقلاني، سيوطي، غزالي و طوسي در حوزه هاي مختلف علوم اسلامي مانند علم قرائت، تفسير و فقه و حديث در تلاش براي درك ‍‍‍‍‍‍‍ وحي الهي، فرهنگ بي نظيري را خلق كردند كه مولف از آن با عنوان «فرهنگ چندمعنايي و مدارا »؛ در برابر «فرهنگ تك معنايي و نامُداراگري مدرنيته» ياد مي كند. به نظر نويسنده كتاب، مسلمانان دررويارويي با غرب در حالي كه متاثر از سلطه فني و نظامي آن بودند، به جاي رجوع به سرچشمه هاي فرهنگ غني خود، در دام مدرنيته گرفتار شدند و برآن شدند با تاسي به معيارهاي مدرنيته؛ يعني «فرهنگ تك معنايي و عدم مدارا»، روايتي از اسلام ارائه كنند كه با مدرنيته همخواني داشته باشد. لذا به زعم نويسنده كتاب، بسياري از ديدگاه هاي امروزي از اسلام حتي آنها كه توسط مسلمانان و در دفاع از اسلام ارائه مي شود، دقيقاً در مدرنيته ريشه دارد و نه در اسلام.

One of the matchless obligations for making attempts toward re-sublimation of Islamic civilization and culture، which enjoys a bright and unequalled background in history، is reference to the real cultural history of this very civilization. The present article has been founded on the basis of the ideas of the German researcher (Thomas Bauer) in his The Culture of Ambiguity: Another Side of Islam. The research methodology in this work is mainly cultural studies; that is، study of a certain period from the perspective of cultural procedure. The writer shows that the eminent Muslim scholars in various fields of Islamic sciences such as science of recitation، interpretation، jurisprudence، and ḥadīth، have، in their attempts for understanding Divine Revelation، created an unparalleled culture، which the writer mentions as “the multi-meaning culture and tolerance” versus “single-meaning and non-tolerant culture of modernity”. According to the writer، the Muslims influenced by the technical and military dominance have entrapped in modernity instead of referring to the fountainheads of their own rich culture for confronting this invasion and decided to present a version of Islam by following its standards that conforms to modernity. Therefore، despite the view of the writer of the book، many of today’s viewpoints about Islam، even those presented by Muslims in defense of Islam، are exactly rooted in modernity.
