نظريه‌هاي مختلفي در روابط بين‌الملل ساخته و پرداخته شده‌اند كه هر كدام از آنها ادعا دارند كه از قدرت تبييني بيشتري برخوردارند و در واقع اغلب آنها ادعاي صدق و حقيقت و تبيين بهتر و كاملتر روابط بين‌الملل و پديده‌هاي بين‌المللي را دارند. پست مدرنيسم نيز به عنوان يكي از نظريات روابط بين‌الملل، ديسيپيلين روابط بين‌الملل را مورد ترديد قرار داده و متفكران آن با تبارشكني و ساختارشكني به سراغ پديده‌هاي بين‌المللي رفتند، قائل به امكان شناخت بهتر روابط بين‌الملل مي‌باشد. اين مقاله با استفاده از روش توصيفي-تحليلي، سعي دارد به اين سوال پاسخ دهد كه چگونه مي‌توان صحت و كذب نظريه پست مدرنيسم در روابط بين‌الملل را كه مدعي شناخت بهتر روابط بين‌الملل است، اثبات كرد؟ در پاسخ، اين فرضيه را به بوته آزمون مي‌گذارد كه پست مدرنيسم به عنوان يك نظريه روابط بين‌الملل هر چند توانسته است افق‌هاي فكري جديدي را پيش روي انديشمندان اين حوزه بگشايد و به فهم نظري روابط بين‌الملل كمك زيادي كند، اما به واسطه اينكه از ناسازگاري، اغتشاش و عدم ارتباط منطقي بين مفاهيم و مقولات مطرح در ابعاد هستي شناسي، معرفت شناسي و روش شناسي رنج مي ‌برد، در نتيجه از قابليت توضيح و تحليل اندكي براي تبيين پديده‌ها و موضوعات روابط بين‌الملل برخوردار شده است. در نتيجه، نتوانسته است به گفته برخي از متفكران روابط بين‌الملل امور جهان را آن طور كه پيش بيني مي‌كرد، پيش ببرد.
