چكيده فارسي :
موسيقي و ادبيات به عنوان دو فصل جدا نشدني از ديرباز مورد توجه خاص قرار گرفته‌اند تا جايي كه نمي‌توان مرزي واقعي بينشان قرار داد و اين در حالي است كه اين دو مقوله با توجه به بسترهاي گوناگون داراي استقلال و شخصيت‌هاي خاص خود نيز هستند. ارج نهادن و حرمت گذاردن به موسيقي، همانا حرمت گذاشتن به زبان فارسي است و نگرش بزرگان ادب پارسي به اين مهم، ارزشمند و شايسته‌ي بررسي مي‌باشد. اشارات صريح نظامي به ابزار و آلات موسيقي، وجود و تكرار فراوان اصطلاحات و عناصر مربوط به موسيقي در اشعارش، بيانگر ميزان دانش و آشنايي كامل وي با اين هنر است. پنج‌گنج نظامي علاوه بر مسائل ادبي و شاعرانه، مجموعه‌ي بسيار ارزشمندي است كه در زمينه‌ي موسيقي مي‌تواند مرجعي مفيد جهت پژوهش باشد. اين اثر كه منبع عظيم حكمت و هنر مي‌باشد، ضمن معرفي سازهاي موسيقي و كاربرد آنها؛ بيانگر آداب و سنت‌هاي گذشتگان در زمينه‌ي سازهايي است كه در مناسبت‌ها و اوقات گوناگون؛ نظير مراسم استقبال از شاهان و بزرگان، مجالس بزم و سوگ، آغاز و ميانه‌ي كارزار و ... نواخته مي‌شده است. هر چند هر مناسبتي ابزار و آلات ويژه‌ي خود را داشته، اما ابزار و آلات مشتركي هم وجود داشته كه مورد استفاده قرار مي‌گرفته است. به كارگيري آلات، سازها و آهنگ‌ها در هنگام بزم و رزم بسيار متنوع است، بسياري از سازها جداگانه نواخته مي‌شده و برخي ديگر؛ چون ناي و رود، ناي و بربط، چنگ و رباب، چنگ و بربط، و روئينه خم و شيپور در كنار يكديگر همنوايي مي‌كرده‌اند.
