A comparative Study of Plato and Avicenna's Views on Love

بررسي تفاوت عشق‌شناسي سينوي و افلاطوني از آن رو حائز اهميت است كه ريشه­ي اختلاف عشق‌شناسي فلاسفه­ي غرب و مسلمان به آثار اين دو بر مي­گردد. افلاطون عشق را گاه اشتياق دارا شدن خوبي و گاه تقاضاي تملك زيبايي مي­داند پس عشق افلاطوني نيازمند زيبايي و كمالات معشوق است و عشق او وجه انساني دارد و نمي‌تواند وصف واجب تعالي باشد از اين رو در همه كائنات سريان نيز ندارد؛ پس تبيين آن نيازمند مباحث انسان شناختي است و چون عشق براي رسيدن به زيبايي است ماهيتي ابزاري و آلي دارد و با تصاحب زيبايي معشوق در قالب وصال از بين مي‌رود. با اين توصيف عشق براي رسيدن به زيبايي مطلق، مطلوب واقع مي­شود و عشق او وجه معرفت شناختي دارد. اما از منظر ابن سينا عشق از احاطه­ي علم به زيبايي به وجود مي­آيد پس وصف باريتعالي است و مي­تواند في نفسه مطمح نظر باشد و چون چنين است وجه هستي شناختي دارد كه مي‌توان از آن نتايج الاهياتي نيز گرفت.

The Comparative Study of Plato and Avicenna’s views on love is important because, we think, the origin of discrepancies on this issue in Western and Islamic philosophical thought has its roots in these two thinkers’ views. Occasionally, in Plato's theory, Love is described as a desire to possess the goodness and, sometimes, beauty. Therefore, Platonic Love is related to beauty and perfections of the beloved; so, it has some human aspect and cannot be considered as a God attribute and does not flow in the universe and cannot be explained but through anthropological issues. In Plato's theory, as love is to attain beauty, it has an instrumental nature. According to aforementioned description, Platonic love is considered as an object to attain the absolute beauty. On the other hand, according to Avicenna's views, love has its roots in the knowledge of beauty; therefore, he maintains that love is one of the attributes of God which has some ontological aspect.
