شاهنامه به عنوان نماد همبستگي ايرانيان، كتابي زميني ـ انساني است كه هيچ مؤلفه‌اي از نيازهاي زيستي بشر در آن به غفلت سپرده نشده است. اين حماسه بزرگ‌ترين بازنمود فرهنگي ايرانيان در دنبالۀ شيوع چند صد ساله مبارزۀ فكري با برترانديشي و سياست متعصبانه نژادي تازيان است كه توانست با منظوم ساختن روايات كهن ملي، مهم‌ترين سرمايه فرهنگ ملي ايران را به بشريت تقديم كند. ساختار اين حماسه به گونه‌اي پرداخته شده كه اولاً نمي‌توان جامعيّت آن را از حيث برخورداري از شرايط و عناصر يك آرمانشهر مطلوب ناديده گرفت و ثانياً انفكاك و جداسازي روح حكمت اسلامي از آن غير ممكن مي­ نمايد. اهميت بزرگ حماسه ايرانيان در چگونگي ياد كرد جنگ‌هاست؛ مؤلفه‌هاي فراوان جنگ سخت (Hard war) و جنگ نرم (Soft war) و شيوه‌هاي متعدد مقابله با عمليات رواني دشمن در اين اثر سترگ به وفور ديده مي‌شود. اين پژوهش يكي از نامدارترين جنگ­هاي رواني شاهنامه، يعني جنگ­ رواني رستم با اشكبوس كشاني را برپايۀ شگردهاي جنگ نرم منطبق با تعاريف انديشمندان معاصر ايراني و خارجي مورد نقد و تحليل قرار داده و بسامد بهره‌گيري صاحبان تمدن كهن ايران قبل از اسلام را از شيوه‌هاي نرم دفاعي و تهاجمي باز نموده است.
