تاريخ فلسفة اسلامي معاصر وضعيتي متفاوت با پيشينه خود دارد. تأثر آن از ديگر حوزه‌هاي معرفتي به‌ويژه فلسفة غرب و نيز مواجهه با مسائل كلامي جديد موجب شده است تا بخش‌هاي متفاوت و ادوار گوناگون اين قسمت از تاريخ فلسفة اسلامي به‌گونه‌اي متمايز از ديگر اجزاي خود از عهد فارابي تا كنون باشد. محمد فنايي اشكوري در كتاب مقدمه‌اي بر فلسفة اسلامي معاصر كوشيده است تا اين ره‌يافت را درقالب روايتي تاريخي بررسي و تفسير كند. تلاش براي تبيين مسائل و نيز شيوة رويكردهاي فكري متفكران مسلمان در حوزه و دانشگاه اصلي‌ترين انگيزۀ تأليف اين كتاب بوده است. اين‌كه هريك از اين متفكران به ‌قدر سهم فكري خود در استخراج مسائل فلسفة اسلامي و تطبيق آن بر وضعيت كنوني تفكر در ايران چه نقش ويژه‌اي داشته‌اند نشان مي‌دهد كه مؤلف كتاب به‌دنبال ضرورت‌هاي تاريخ معاصر فلسفة اسلامي بوده است. مبناي نظر به تاريخ در مقدمه‌اي بر فلسفة اسلامي معاصر مغفولٌ‌عنه مانده است و معلوم نيست فلسفة اسلامي معاصر از كدام مبناي نظر به تاريخ بررسي شده است.

The history of contemporary Islamic philosophy has a different status with its history. Influencing it from other epistemic areas, especially Western philosophy, as well as facing new theological issues, has caused various parts of this episode of Islamic philosophy history to be distinct from other parts of the Farabi era. The book introduces contemporary Islamic philosophy to the study of this approach in the form of a historical narrative. The attempt to explain the issues, as well as the intellectual approaches of Muslim thinkers in the field and university, was the main motive for this book to be compiled. The fact that each of these thinkers has had a special role in extracting the issues of Islamic philosophy and its adaptation to the current state of thought in Iran shows that the author of the book follows the imperatives of contemporary history of Islamic philosophy. The basis of history has been neglected in the introduction to contemporary Islamic philosophy, and it is not clear from which point of view the history of contemporary Islamic philosophy has been studied.
