آسياي مركزي ازجمله مناطقي است كه در روند زمان با فلات ايران برهم‌كنش‌هاي فراواني داشته كه عمدتاً در مطالعات باستان‌شناسان ايران مغفول مانده است و چون در مجموعة درس‌هاي باستان‌شناسي نيز به آن پرداخته نشده يا كم‌تر پرداخته مي‌شود، دانشجويان از اين حوزه مفاهيم چنداني نمي‌آموزند و اين درحالي است كه تأثير فرهنگ‌هاي آسياي مركزي بر فرهنگ‌‌هاي كهن ايران را نمي‌توان ناديده گرفت. فيليپ كوهل، نويسندة اين كتاب، با نگاهي دقيق و نسبتاً جامع سعي كرده تا بيشينة پژوهش‌‌هاي انجام‌شده در اين ناحيه را موردبررسي قرار دهد و باتوجه‌به اين‌كه ساليان زيادي است كه در اين منطقه مطالعه و پژوهش كرده، با تسلط كامل به توضيح يافته‌‌ها و محوطه‌‌هاي باستان‌‌شناختي حوزة آسياي مركزي از پارينه‌سنگي تا عصر آهن مي‌پردازد. نسخة انگليسي كتاب بسيار خوب تنظيم ‌شده است؛ هرچند گاهي نكاتي هم‌چون عدم ارجاع به برخي مقالات به‌خصوص در حوزة ايران از ايرادات متن انگليسي كتاب محسوب مي‌شود. متأسفانه ترجمة فارسي ايراد بي‌شماري دارد كه خواندن كتاب را با مشكل مواجه كرده است و از جذابيت آن به‌شدت مي‌كاهد. حروف‌چيني ِپر از ايراد، عدم رعايت اصول نگارش فارسي و ايرادات املايي و نگارشي، ترجمة اشتباه، و حذف برخي از موارد كليدي در ترجمه از اصلي‌‌ترين ايرادات ترجمه محسوب مي‌‌شود.

Central Asia is one of the region that have hadinteraction with Iranian plateau during the time, but, unfortunately missed in the Iranian archaeological studies. Although, this region is attended by some of Iranian archaeologists that working in eastern Iran but, other archaeologists generally haven’t any information about it. Archaeological students haven’t know something about central Asia too, because they have no lesson and central Asian topic in their courses. However, that is impossible to ignore interaction between ancient Iran and Central Asia cultures. The kohl’s book, Central Asia Paleolithic beginnings to the Iron Age, is the one of the best books in this topic and reading it is so important for Iranianarchaeologists. Kohl working in this region for a long time and he has wrote this book by details and comprehensive look. This book is written and fine-tuned in EnglishOf course, in some cases, such as not referring to some articles, especially in the Iranian arena, are considered to be flaws in the English text of the book.Unfortunately, the Persian translation of this book is not attractive because the translated text has many mistakes. False typing, not regarding the principles of Persian writing and spelling mistakes, wrong translation and disregard some keywords, are the main mistakes in translation of this book.
