آيين ها و رسوم همواره از عقايد، فرهنگ و تاريخ ريشه مي گيرند، مانند آيين هاي سوگواري كه از عقايد كهن بر مي خيزند. يكي از سنت هاي سوگواري در خراسان، پهن كردن قالي بر روي قبر است كه هنگام جمع آمدن افراد بر گرد قبر متوفي و در روزهاي مناسبتي انجام مي شود. قالي نيز به عنوان يكي از اصلي ترين و مهمترين هنرهاي سنتي ايران، وجه ديگر اين آيين است كه بر اهميت آن مي افزايد. محور و هدف اين پژوهش، مفهوم قالي بر روي قبر در سوگواري هاي خراسان است و اين سؤالات مطرح مي شوند كه معنا و مفهوم اين سنت چيست؟ و قالي بر روي قبر چه مفهومي را به ذهن مي رساند؟ اين پژوهش به روش توصيفي و تاريخي انجام شده كه اطلاعات آن از منابع كتابخانه اي، اينترنتي و مصاحبه با افراد سالخورده و آگاه به اين سنت، گردآوري شده است. قالي كه نمادهاي تصويري بسياري را در خود جاي داده است در اين آيين، خود به نماد تبديل مي شود. در اين پژوهش اين يافته و نتيجه حاصل مي شود كه قالي بر روي قبر در آيين هاي سوگواري خراسان، نماد خانة جديد و ابدي انسان است. خانه اي كه انسان در آن براي آخرين بار با دوستان و آشنايان خود وداع مي كند.

This research has been carried out in a descriptive and historical manner, which has been gathered from library resources, internet and interviews with elderly people who are aware of this tradition. The carpet that holds many image icons in this ritual turns into an icon. In this research, it is found that carpet on the grave in Khorasan mourning rituals is the symbol of a new and eternal human home. A house where the man farewell to his friends and acquaintances for the last time.
