A Survey of Comparison of Nurses Attitudes Towards Self-directed and Other-Directed Continuing Education Programs in Nursing at Kerman University of Medical Sciences

This research is a comparative-descriptive study carried out in order to compare the attitude of nurses working at Kerman University of Medical Sciences affiliated hospitals toward continuing education programs by self-directed and other-directed methods of learning. The study sample in this study consisted of 103 nurses wich were selected by random- stratified sampling . A questionnaire was designed based on five ratings (Likert type). Collected data were statistically analysed by x2 test. Results of this study indicated that nurses had a positive attitude towards self-directed and other-directed learning. Comparative tests showed a significant relationship between nurses attitude towards self-directed and other-directed learning. The results of this study also showed that reading nursing books and journals effected the nurses attitude towards self-directed and other-directed learning in continuing educational programs. This result also indicated that the type of ward and participation in courses have a significant correlation with attitudes towards other-directed learning.
